Can You Benefit from Massage Therapy?

What are the Benefits of Massage Therapy?

There is a lot of debate out there on what the real benefits of massage therapy are. We are proud to say that we are a science-based company, which means we are not selling false claims about what the benefits of massage are. (It does not: Detoxify, remove lactic acid, increase circulation, increase lymphatic flow, fix you, realign you or break down scar tissue) But it can:

The CDC and ACP now recommend Massage Therapy over Opioids

In 2022, the CDC updated an important guideline for adults managing pain by including non-pharmaceutical approaches to pain management. This is a long-awaited decision for Massage Therapists, acupuncturists, and Physical Therapists.

Massage is recommended by the department of health before prescription medications for pain

The CDC cites that ‘ Pain is one of the most common reasons adults seek medical care in the United States…Noninvasive, nonpharmacologic approaches to acute pain have the potential to improve pain and function without risk for serious harms’

Furthermore: ‘The American College of Physicians (ACP) recommends nonpharmacologic treatment with superficial heat, massage, acupuncture, or spinal manipulation as a cornerstone of treatment for acute low back pain’.

If you are wondering if massage therapy is for you, the answer is it is a low-cost, low-risk intervention that should be tried before moving on to therapies that have downsides. We know many types of pain do improve on their own, but tools that allow you to manage your pain are a great advantage to you and your health.
